Background on Anne-Maree Kape:
Imaginative and colourful jewellery has always been part of my life, and over the past 10 years I have been individually designing and making the collection of ReeCreations jewellery. “ReeCreations” is a play on my nickname “Ree”, and the fact that when I began my jewellery-making it was as a ‘recreational’ pastime from my full-time career in the public service in Canberra. Since moving to the South Coast in 201I have been able to devote more time and energy to the creative process, and to developing my ReeCreations jewellery.
My passion is the creation of jewellery with semi-precious stones, sterling silver, and other metals. For me, the wonderful colours, textures and patterns found in these natural beauties are a source of never-ending delight. The stones almost tell me how they want to look and quite often I will sketch a design beforehand, and during the wiring process I will find that something quite different from what I had originally planned is taking form without me being really aware of it.
I am continually developing and learning new techniques to enhance my creations. I enjoy exploring various other materials and techniques, including precious metal clay (PMC), polymer clay, resin, glass and mixed metals, as I believe the knowledge gained from working with a variety of techniques and materials contributes to my artistry. I enjoy every part of the creative process – from the original concept, to putting the design together, and, ultimately, enjoying the pleasure wearers take in having a truly original and one-of-a-kind creation.
My jewellery has been sold at the Handmade Canberra markets, at Shop Handmade in Canberra, and at private jewellery parties in Canberra. Since moving to the south coast, ReeCreations has been a regular participant in the annual South Coast Handmade Market at Batemans Bay. I am also a member of the Batemans Bay Art & Craft Society Inc (BBACS); and the Montague Art & Craft Society Inc (MACS), and regularly participate in exhibitions with both these groups. A selection of my work can also be found at the Artisans Nest Bodalla, where I am a contributing member.
