Bodalla Cottage Gallery – Narooma News

Update: The Bodalla Cottage Gallery has since changed its name to The Artisans’ Nest Incorporated.

Earlier this year a new gallery opened its doors in the beautiful country town of Bodalla on the south coast of New South Wales. The Bodalla Cottage Gallery is an initiative of the Eurobodalla Fibre and Textile Artists Group, known as EFTAG, and has proved to be a natural progression for this inspiring group of textile artists, some of whom were long time residents of Canberra before “retiring” to the coast.

Over the past number of years the members have mounted many successful exhibitions in and around Moruya and staged some legendary fashion parades. Their artworks are innovative and exciting, often depicting the colours and textures of the environment in which they are created. Wall hangings, wearable art, bags, sculptures and jewellery are presented in a constantly changing display of felting, leatherwork, eco-dyed silks, hand-weaving, art jewellery and much more.

The Bodalla Cottage Gallery is situated on the Princes Highway between the Dairy Shed and the Lavender Shop and is housed in an attractive 1870’s weatherboard building.  In the late 19th century the building housed the original bakery for the town before becoming the groom’s cottage for the stables situated on the opposite side of the road.

In 1989 Robert and Sandra McCuaig began renovating the motel at the Bodalla Dairy Shed site and have built a new cheese factory close by for the production of cheese using milk from local dairy cows. Their vision is to revive the working history of the town and showcase the old crafts including cheese  production, bread making, lavender production and now cloth making and associated textile skills.

The members of EFTAG would like to warmly welcome visitors to the area over the Easter holiday. As well as viewing the diverse range of fibre techniques on display there will be demonstrations of spinning and felting with some “hands on” for those game enough to try. This includes children!

The gallery is open 10am to 5pm seven days per week.
